Therapist Coaching with Dr. Broderick Sawyer

Deepen Your Clinical Presence, Sharpen Your Craft, and Build a Practice That Reflects Your Values
Therapists need more than technique. They need mentorship that helps them think more clearly, attune more deeply, and practice in a way that is both clinically effective and personally sustainable. If you are a therapist, counselor, or other mental health professional who wants to deepen your work, refine your clinical presence, and build a practice that feels more aligned, this space is designed for you.

Why Work With Me
Many therapists are trained to identify symptoms and apply interventions from a single theoretical model. Far fewer are taught how to understand the deeper structure beneath what a client is presenting with: attachment wounds, shame, nervous system adaptations, relational patterns, identity defenses, and the many ways survival can shape personality.

My work with therapists is designed to help you become more skillful not just in what you do, but in how you see. Drawing on diverse clinical training, years of teaching other mental health professionals, and a decade-long Buddhist practice, I help therapists strengthen their attunement, case conceptualization, emotional presence, and clarity in the room.

Together, we can work on:

*Sharpening your therapeutic technique and clinical thinking
*Understanding what may block attunement, presence, or depth in session
*Using attention, mindfulness, and relational awareness as clinical tools
*Helping clients move beyond symptom management and toward deeper change
*Building a private practice or professional path that reflects your values, energy, and long-term sustainability
*Growing your leadership capacity when supporting or managing other helping professionals

Whether you are early in your career or more established, I aim to meet you where you are and help you work with greater depth, steadiness, and integrity.

Specific Areas of Focus:

1. Clinical Technique and Case Conceptualization
We can strengthen your ability to think clearly about what is happening beneath a client’s symptoms, including trauma responses, attachment dynamics, shame, relational reenactments, and survival-based identities. This includes refining interventions, broadening your theoretical range, and becoming more intentional in session.

2. Attunement and Clinical Presence
Good therapy is not just about what you say. It is also about how you listen, track, regulate, and relate. We can work on reading the room more effectively, noticing nervous system cues, deepening emotional presence, and becoming more confident in your own style.

3. Liberation, Buddhist, and Mindfulness-Informed Practices
I also support therapists who want to integrate mindfulness, liberation psychology, self-compassion, systemic awareness, and deeper existential and relational thinking into their work in ways that feel grounded rather than performative or overly abstract.

4. Therapist Sustainability and Practice Development
Because therapists are not machines, we can also focus on the structure of your work: Boundaries, energy, burnout prevention, values-aligned practice building, ethical pricing, niche development, and creating a rhythm of work that actually supports your life.

Who This Is For
This work may be a good fit if you:

*Want to become more effective, attuned, and thoughtful in session
*Feel limited by symptom-focused or overly manualized training models
*Want to help clients at greater depth without becoming vague or ungrounded
*Want to use mindfulness, nervous system awareness, and systemic thinking in your work
*Are building a private practice and want it to reflect your values and authentic energy
*Want support becoming a stronger leader, supervisor, or colleague within helping professions

This Is More Than Coaching
This is mentorship for therapists who want to become more skillful without losing their humanity. Here’s what coaching clients have said:

Consulting with Dr. Sawyer to improve my therapy skills has changed my professional and personal life. Being a therapist is so hard, but he's made it so much simpler in ways that my formal training couldn't. First off, he’s FUNNY, which makes me feel much more at ease, confident, capable, playful, and creative in my work. Second, when we talk about my skills as a therapist, he centers the mutual humanity of my clients AND myself. Instead of speaking about clients like they’re robots or discussing my role in therapy like I’m a robot, he’s rooted in bigger existential perspectives, rather than simple diagnosis and intervention. Highly recommend, a real game-changer and a joy to work with (as I already said, he’s very funny!).
